MENTON’S OLD TOWN
Our 3-star hotel is at the foot of the historic centre of Menton, with its many small streets that are ideal for a stroll. With their façades in the warm colours of Provence, the streets of the old town will lead you to the magnificent forecourt of Saint-Michael's Basilica, the White Penitents’ Chapel or to the summit of the Vieux-Château cemetery, with its giddy view over the sea, Italy and the mountains.
The town of Menton organises guided heritage visits.
SAINT-MICHAEL'S BASILICA
Accessed by steps, at the heart of Menton old town, Saint-Michael's Basilica is a jewel of Baroque art that will delight you with its splendour. From the forecourt with its small pebbles, you will have a fine view of the sea. Each year, this is the scene of the major Menton Music Festival.
THE PORTS OF MENTON
The town of Menton has two ports: the old port of Menton, managed by the town, and the Port of Menton-Garavan.
The former is at the foot of the old town and has a capacity of 596. It is easy to access on foot from the Best Western Hotel Méditerranée. Once there, you can enjoy a meal in one of the many restaurants that are specialised in freshly caught fish or relax on one of the big private or public beaches around the Old Port.
The second port, the port of Garavan, has 770 places and is located next to the Italian border. It is one of the biggest ports in the French Riviera.
THE COVERED MARKET
The covered market in Menton is an atypical Provençal market that is open each morning at the foot of the old town, on Quai de Monléon in the town market building. It only takes 5 minutes to get there on foot from the Best Western Hotel Menton Méditerranée along the pedestrian street.
Here you will discover all the savours, colours and aromas of the south of France. The local market sellers will introduce you to some of Menton’s specialities such as lemons, socca, barbajuans, spices, etc. A pure moment to share with a warm Menton welcome.
MUSEUMS
JEAN COCTEAU MUSEUM, THE SEVERIN WUNDERMAN COLLECTION
The Jean Cocteau Museum was opened in November 2011 in Menton thanks to the exceptional endowment of Severin Wunderman, a Belgian collector.
Standing beside the sea close to the Bastion Museum, on Quai Monléon, opposite the covered market, the Jean Cocteau Museum has become the major public resource in the world for the work of Jean Cocteau.
The Jean Cocteau Museum, the Severin Wunderman collection, presents the poet’s work from 1910 to 1950.
Open every day from 10 to 6, except for Tuesdays and 1 January, 1 May, 1 November and 25 December.
Evening opening every Friday in July and August until 10 p.m.
BASTION JEAN COCTEAU MUSEUM
The Bastion Museum was originally located in an abandoned 17th century fort on the Mediterranean coast, at the initiative of Jean Cocteau himself and the Mayor of Menton of the time.
The museum still houses part of the works of Jean Cocteau. Tickets also give admission to the Jean Cocteau Museum, the Severin Wunderman collection, a few yards away.
FINE ARTS MUSEUM
The Menton Fine Arts Museum is housed in a former residence of the Princes of Monaco, the Carnolès Palace, at the heart of a large, very pleasant park where visitors can walk in the midst of a wide range of citrus trees.
